October Newsletter

The first newsletter is hot off the presses. We've sent it via email, but if you didn't get a chance to read it, here it is (in PDF format for your reading pleasure). If you'd like to be added to the newsletter mailing list, contact us.

October Status - How Are We Doing?

by Stan Burnett
11 October, 2009

It has been two weeks since we formally kicked off the operation of Friends of PATA Manzanillo. Here's what's been happening:

  • We have published our first newsletter (see the box) and I am very pleased with the results of our mailings -- only four unsubscribe requests, which I find amazing. Thanks to all for continuing to listen to our message.
  • For those waiting for a quick response from the Internal Revenue Service on our 501(c)(3) tax-exemption application, the IRS is currently working applications dated in June, so we'll have a few months before we hit the review desk.
  • We are now on Facebook, come join us at Friends of PATA Manzanillo. I am not sure how that will evolve, and I'm open to suggestions.

Again, thanks for your support. If you have a special expertise and are interested in volunteering to help us work behind the scenes on animal welfare issues, contact us.

Incorporated

15 August, 2009

Becoming a corporation in the U.S. is the first step to becoming a tax-exempt charity. Friends of PATA Manzanillo added an Inc. to its title in August of 2009. As of this writing, the board is hammering out the details and typing up the tax-exempt request forms to submit to the IRS.
